[BHN] Delayed ring with Spectrum landline

$

L-BHN. Just checking if anybody has had this problem that started about 2 weeks ago. This system has been in operation for 5+ years. Caller ID will show on the TV and about 5-10 seconds later the phone will ring if at all. When I see the caller ID, I can pick up before the ring and have a normal conversation. I have a separate modem (eMTA) for the phone and have removed the battery and rebooted several times, yet this "delay" exists. I think the problem might be: 1. bad phone controller (Panasonic KX-TGF353N)? 2. I am a nomorobo subscriber? 3. eMta (self owned and will probably cause an account change if I request change out???) 4. Fill in the blank_____ TX

[CATV] Navigator: Possible Duplicate Recording of Shows in Schedule?

$

Guys, Many years ago, our Wisconsin legacy TWC management aligned channels by theme and did the "Add a one to the channel" to get its HD couterpart. For example Food Network would be 150 and the HD version would be 1151. When scheduling a recording on ODN Navigator the DVR would sense that only one channel needed to be recorded and would only record on that channel. Now, Spectrum tunes all channels to HD, because 98% of our lineup is HD. We still have the old "Add a one to the HD channel." In some cases, we have three versions of the same channel. An HD channel on Spectrum Select, An HD channel also in the old Digital Value Package that is three digits, and the add a 1 four digit channel. Today, I recorded a boxing show set for Saturday night on Fox Sports 1, and noticed in two instances of scheduled recording that the show had been duplicated in scheduled recordings. Does Navigator now recorded two instances of the same show on different channel locations? I have the Cisco 9865 six-tuner DVR. I deleted one of the entries to avoid a conflict, just in case. I just wonder if the DVR is smart enough to just record one of the shows, or would I get the same show duplicated on two of the six tuners? Anybody else have this issue? I don't really know if it is an issue, or a design situation? Satch

SB8200 vs Technicolor E31T2V1 vs Hitron E31H2V1

Well because this is important information and I'm sure plenty of people are curious, I'm turning this into it's own post as I think it's relevant and I spent time doing it for my own information. I was able to procure a Charter D3.1 Hitron model E31H2V1 from another city in my area. There are a few people that reported these models are superior and that they offer anywhere from 3-6ms less then a SB8200. I am a gamer first and foremost, a 6ms latency drop is a big deal, especially the closer to 0 you get. I was told there were firmware updates and to wait 30m after the modem power on before activating it. It didn't look like it did anything at all during that time, so it might've been early issues with this model and all current models are shipping with the most up to date firmware. If my net goes down during 'update hours' and I end up with better net stats, I'll be sure to report them as I run a pingplotter 24/7. After registering the model, I ended up with the same IP address as the Technicolor so this is most definitely a apples to apples comparison. My google ping is now roughly 1.5ms higher then the SB8200, and 1ms higher then the Technicolor model. Variance in the pings looks roughly the same as the Technicolor, see the attached picture. I don't have a technical program to monitor variance, so you'll have to eyeball the pictures. As far as delivery goes. The model ramps up to full speed on the dslreports test and stays there better then the Technicolor, however not as good as the SB8200. Puma6 test occasionally reports red blocks, but not as often as the Technicolor. I never got red blocks with the SB8200, however I only tested it twice before swapping it out. In my earlier post I mentioned that I was getting weird page hang issues with the Technicolor, where a page wouldn't completely load and it would just sit for a bit retrying a specific address (like a bad DNS server) then load. That happened on occasion and doesn't happen with the Hitron and never did with the SB8200. Page loads are snappy with both the Hitron and SB8200. The Technicolor was also on occasion giving me decently high spikes (60-80ms). They only happen on occasion and not on set intervals throughout the day. Pingplotter would maybe give 3-4 per 10 minutes, then just stop. The Hitron and SB8200 didn't have this happen. Both the Hitron and Technicolor occasionally had packet loss, however, which would show up as an occasional red line. This happened very rarely and sporadically throughout the day. [att=1] Pings are as follows: SB8200, Technicolor, Hitron WoW: 27-29, 28-31, 29-31 BF5: 43~, 45~, 46~ CloudHarmony Azure US-NorthCent: 29, 30, 32 AWS East Ohio: 37-42, 40-42, 39-42 HotS: 27~, 30~, 29~ Closest Hop Avg: 8.3, 8.7, 10.2 Although not really that important when looking at 1ms, I think it's important to note these results were pretty consistent. So, no, the D3.1 models from Charter are not as good as a SB8200, however, we're talking 8% difference in ping, 1-2 ms better. That and the Charter modems being free with a sub makes it relatively pointless to buy a SB8200 unless you're looking for that tiny performance increase and access to signal levels/spectrum analyzer built into the modem, which is pretty nice, but rather unimportant for $180. Given the Technicolor occasionally gets weird spikes and page slowdowns vs slightly higher latency on the Hitron, neither really wins against each other. The only possible saving grace here is that the SB8200 isn't fully supported, so we might be seeing optimized modems vs a modem that is just sitting on a default configuration and it's possible it will improve in the future. There are also reports the SB8200 will run on poor signals better, but I don't have a way of testing that. Based on the teardowns of the hardware, I would believe it though. Unfortunately this turned up almost nothing. I am personally more interested in a comparison between the SB8200, the CM1000, and the MB8600, but I don't have the money for that. I bought blind much like many people on here who probably just looked at the teardowns and bought based off that. All the reviews online for modems are a joke, none use actual metrics or do real benchmarking. Also please note I have a 400/20 package, not 1gig, so there might be more apparent differences testing closer to maximums (especially interface maximum). As I mentioned in a prior post, if you intend on testing make sure you get into the same IP range for the first two. Such as XXX.YYY.000.000. said by uid://656526 :So I went to the local Charter store today and got a Technicolor E31T2V1. I asked specifically for the Hitron, they didn't have any in stock or the Ubee, which is to be expected. Online activation worked for me this time, however I ended up with the wrong provisioned speeds, so I had to call in anyway. It took me a little bit to get back into the same IP range as my SB8200, but I managed to do it. I took a pingplotter screenshot with the SB8200, with the E31T2V1 on the original google address it was pinging with the SB8200, and then again with a 'refreshed' google.com address in case I somehow ended up on a slightly different network. SB8200 [att=2] E31T2V1 old Google Ping [att=3] E31T2V1 new Google Ping [att=4] The Puma6 test shows roughly the same amount of yellowish blocks as the SB8200. Although this isn't an official test and there seems to be almost no benchmark for this, when I max out the modem with my package (I have a 420/20 package), the E31T2V1 hits a tiny bit higher speeds (470/23 instead of 460/23), but fluctuates less on download and more on upload. With the SB8200 it maxes out at 1500ms~ down and 40ms~ up. With the E31T2V1 it maxes out at 250ms~ down and 250ms~ up. Obviously if you have QoS working it probably wont matter at all, but I think actually stressing the hardware inside the box is important and you can't do that till you hit higher speeds under load. When I talked to the CSR at Charter to get reprovisioned he said he couldn't send a new modem out as customer service doesn't deal with hardware when I asked for the Hitron with the model number. Another person on here mentioned he got the modem sent to him, not sure if there is a process or something, but I was told I had to go through the local store. So basically there is no benefit to getting a SB8200 (at least right now) and it's basically the same as Charter gear. I'm going to have to figure out how to get a Hitron so I can try that as most of the positive posts on here regarding Charters D3.1 modems are based on it. There is however no access to a web interface for levels, logs, and all that good stuff. But I don't think that's worth $180. That being said, Charters modems aren't better either, at least not the E31T2V1.

Well, I found an old DPC3825 and hooked it up for shits and giggles. Well, I thought it worked, but it just redirected me to an activation page. https://elb02.activatemymodem.com/ Try this link for self-activation.

Sleep not Turning Off Television

Long story short, we had to change our set top boxes out (from Technicolor to Arris), and now the Menu>Settings>Devices>Sleep Timer only turns the box off and the TV just 'idles' there all night. This is an unfortunate step backwards and I don't know what to do at this point, so any ideas are appreciated... Some Additional Info: The actual options after selecting Menu are different than before, but they both had/have 'sleep timer'. The 'connection' from the set top box to the TV has changed from coax cable to composite (due to the techs not having any boxes capable of coax output). The TV now shows 'line' when the box is off (I believe the TV used to be on 'channel 3' before). The 'TV' buttons that work are : channel +-, vol +-, last, mute, and the 0-9 number pad, which I believe is no different from the last box. The Remote is RC122, same as before.

1 Gbps T3 T4 and low MER issues

I'm having some issues with my service. I've had two techs out so far and have a supervisor coming tomorrow morning. The drop from the tap has been replaced and the plan tomorrow is to replace the line going into the house. Three different modems SB8200, Technicolor and now a MB8600 all with same issue. The amp in the area was adjusted and that made a big difference but i'm still getting random corrected and uncorrected codewords with T3 and T4 events logged. Speeds have been up and down along with latency. I can reach peak bandwidth but it falls down to sub 500 or lower and latency spikes in the 200-300 range under no load. The MER has hit 30 on a few channels but over the weekend it has been around 33-34 and only a few corrected codewords on those channels. It seems the major issues might be the low MER on some of the channels and possible channel db tilt? I asked the supervisor about the tilt and he said it's not a problem with docsis 3.1 but i'm not sure about that. signal pages https://photos.app.goo.gl/GxaCLnVgmr6SNDZM7 https://photos.app.goo.gl/594URQhQ6BebUNKa7 https://photos.app.goo.gl/Hjk6TC9X1vd4HqX18 Thanks

New Hitron modem

So what is everyone's take on these new modems? I have the spectrum gig service and I started the service with the TC4400 but yesterday they did something(guy couldn't tell me exactly what happened) but basically they broke the TC4400 and can no longer work on my account. So they had to come out today and swap out the TC4400 for the hitron model. I don't know what they broke but it didn't matter if they removed/deactivated the modem and added it back it was no longer wanting to work. But anyways my tc4400(or their modem)was pretty solid modem for me, never once had any issues out of it and I do and I still old and new modem get around 940mbps on the down. Its also a bummer because I had the tc4400 unlocked and was able to look at the signals and what not, but I can't even access a page to enter a password.

I did not know that the Charter Communications/Spectrum Employees were on strike since nobody really has reported it. [BHN] Specrum/BHN has messed with e-mail and 'broke' some stuff

OK, I just got off CHAT and I'm probably a bit annoyed, but some 'genius' at BHN it seems has taken upon themselves to 'fix' e-mail and specifically WebMail and did more 'damage' than good. Two things have changed: 1 - Old mailbox holding limits have been set to 5GB's for ALL accounts. 2 - You no longer see the source or headers of e-mail messages on webmail. First one hit me hard on our last vacation where we had limit sporadic ability to see or get out e-mails. Turned out that during the switch from BHN to Spectrum it was reset to 1GB.... was able to reach chat a few days later and was directed to Self Care and I had 30GB's of space I could distribute to our accounts. Solved the problem for us. Today, in prep for an upcoming trip I noticed that Webmail showed 5GB's but I know it was 10GB's before? Could no longer seem to be able on Self Care to change that? All I could do was change the status of a user or its password? So I got on chat, this should be easy, probably need a new link (I could find NOTHING about this on the present Self Care or search)? Agent directed to me very quickly to Self Care... and tried the link, same place I was. Told her and she had to research... Answer, "Katrina: I do apologize, it appears that we have made some changes which email address gets 5 GB now and it can not be updated" What!!! I guess I might lose some e-mails again. Since I was asked 'Anything else I can help you with?" I inquired how do I see the headers and source of e-mails on webmail? Was asked to verify if I was using WEBMAIL.SPECTRUM.NET and confirmed yes. The answer, "Katrina: I would say use https://mail.twc.com", and that DOES work. What is wrong with BHN/Spectrum? Who dreams of breaking working things and impacting users? Off my soapbox...

[BHN] TV Server Connection Issues

Woke up this morning and looks like neither of my boxes is communicating with the server/cloud/whatever you call it. Search not working, On-Demand unavailable, graphics for shows aren't loading, certain channels currently unavailable, etc. I've seen this happen before and I'm sure it will fix itself with the daily overnight download/update if not sooner but figured I'd ask. Anyone else in CFL experiencing this today?

Anyways I know there was an older post about IPV6 but couldn't make up my mind either bringing the older thread back up or starting a new one, but here we are I created a new one.

Called tech support today to get the IP addresses for Spectrum's DNS servers. The person on the phone said she was unable to provide the information. I asked if this was support for their Internet, it was. I asked why she was unable to provide the information. She explained to me (several times) they do not provide any information for routers, modems etc. I asked for a supervisor (I am thinking this is unbelievable not able to provide something so basic for their customers) the supervisor was no help either. I need the info for my router so if anyone has the information please share. [HSI] Losing internet connection intermittently

$

I keep losing internet connection 1-3 times per day. Modem still has power/online lights normal (blue) and router thinks there is a WAN and has IP address but no connection is there. Only a power cycle on the modem fixes it. I have been running smokeping and can see exactly when things go down. (new modem is locked out. My past modems I could see the log and even showed the tech all the drops and he just said those logs mean nothing and gave me the locked modem instead). Using DNS 8.8.8.8 so not a DNS issue. When things are lost, it takes 15 min to several hours to return but you have to power cycle modem as it will never come back on its own. They have sent techs a bunch of times. Last fall, my issue was tons of dropped packets and supposedly a level two came out (and based on Level 1 tech guess, there issue was with amp in box by house). Since then, I continue to get dropped connections. They have checked house wiring multiple times and replaced the run from house to box (even though tech said nothing wrong with it but wanted to pretend to help). Modem has been replaced several times. Last one was brand new E31T2V1. he said line was rock solid in that visit. I am convinced the issue is upstream with something rebooting or resetting but also fixing itself but requiring a resync or relog by modem before I see return to service. When I call, they either say everything is fine with the line, or do a reset remote to modem which of course fixes things, or just offer to send a tech to the house. How do I describe this to useless customer rep in a way to get a tech to look upstream (and based on symptoms, what/where could I suggest is broken to try to force the issue?
