Problems with billing on promotional pricing

Apparently, Spectrum doesn't give new customer pricing to existing customers unless you somehow get lucky. We received 2 months of bills with notices that "You qualify for $44.99 Internet", despite being charged $59.99 after "bundle discount". I called Spectrum to inquire about this and the first 2 reps rudely said we didn't qualify, and to look elsewhere. After a 3rd call, I got a "supervisor" who was much friendlier and put us on a new customer promotion. We received an e-mail confirmation with the new pricing. However, we got the January bill and it was full price again. I called Spectrum, they verified the new lower price, and they assured me it would reflect on the next bill. We got the February bill, full price again. To make matters worse, it looked like the promo features got added to the existing plan, so we were shown as having 2 CableCards, 2 modems, etc (likely why the order was rejected). I called Spectrum and they said the original order was coded incorrectly and could not be applied to the account. They then had to submit a request to a department higher up to get the prices adjusted. Fingers crossed it actually gets fixed, or we'll be forced to find a new provider. Bottom line, if Spectrum makes you an offer, keep all documentation and be sure that all features and discounts are properly reflected on your bill. Spectrum is starting to rival the arrogance and price gouging of AT&T.

[HSI] Spectrum Gig - Post your experiences here

Let's reserve this thread for only folks who are ordering/have ordered/have installed the new 940x35 tier, served over DOCSIS 3.1. Include location, modem provided, pricing, speed/latency/signal details, etc. To be fair, I'm starting this one a little early. City: Austin, TX (NW) Price: $124.99/mo + tax, $199.99 install fee (no discounts) Confirmed on Twitter earlier today that Gig was available here, then had a 9am Thursday appointment one 8 minute, 54 second call later (no initial hold time for sales). No discounts because I can't exactly pretend I'll switch to AT&T; their service is 5 Mbps here. Will be interesting to see what modem/gateway the tech brings. EDIT: Got email confirmation of the appointment. Looks like it's Wednesday at 1pm now. I'm not complaining :) EDIT 12/20 2p: Tech shows up at 1:51pm. Technicolor modem, same as in Hawaii. No branding on the router, which is an 11ac Wave 2 device with one WAN port (the modem has two LAN ports). Tech is on the phone with dispatch to get the router and modem activated. EDIT 12/22 2:40a: I can't stress enough how good the provided router is (made by Askey), particularly on the WiFi side. I just topped out at over 750 Mbps on my 2013-vintage MacBook Pro...over WiFi. It has a 3x3 11ac radio from Atheros (now QCA). My nearly-brand-new work laptop, which only has a 2x2 radio, was still able to hit 500+ Mbps. Also, I just tested ports 22, 80, 443, and 5900. None of them are blocked.

Will Spectrum ever remove that ridiculous $199 Fee for Gig?

I've been ready to get the Gig service since its inception, but the $199 fee is ridiculous. My line is already conditioned since I've had business service so no tech is needed. I currently have Ultra and the $49 install fee for that was ridiculous enough. Anyway around this fee?

Top Secret DNS server info ?

Called tech support today to get the IP addresses for Spectrum's DNS servers. The person on the phone said she was unable to provide the information. I asked if this was support for their Internet, it was. I asked why she was unable to provide the information. She explained to me (several times) they do not provide any information for routers, modems etc. I asked for a supervisor (I am thinking this is unbelievable not able to provide something so basic for their customers) the supervisor was no help either. I need the info for my router so if anyone has the information please share. Thanks!

Spectrum redlining with Internet Assist?

A co-worker was able to get Internet Assist in Southern California with zero paperwork for authentication. She happens to live in a middle to lower income city. A friend of mine tried to sign up for Internet Assist in another slightly higher income Southern California city. They were told their city didn't qualify for automatic eligibility and they'd be required to submit extensive paperwork. Is Spectrum really allowed to discriminate based on general incomes of an area? I can understand that prices may be different in different regions of the country, but Southern California has people struggling in almost every city and that doesn't sound right. Also, the rep stated that even if a new tenant wanted to sign up for Internet Assist, they'd have to wait until 30 days after the previous tenant cancelled service. Isn't a new account a new account and unrelated to the previous account holder? Was this rep totally clueless or is Spectrum really playing games to avoid having to offer affordable Internet service?

[CATV] Roku and Charter app

Was just reading this topic, https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r32294044-Don-t-need-cable-boxes-anymore and din't want to steal thread, so am asking my own question that is along similar lines. Getting Charter tv installed tomorrow. Have 3 STB's coming with it. Guy on phone said I could use Roku to stream from Charter app on them and return 2 of the STB's. He said I have to have 1 STB. Do I really? According to poster on the link I posted above, he said no need for even 1 STB anymore. Is that just because poster is using Apple tv? Never had that great of luck streaming on their app when I last had their tv 3 years ago, so wondering how and if it works on Roku? Any other tips anyone else can supply are appreciated. Thanks

[HSI] When will Charter finish upgrading their footprint?

$

Charter was going to roll out 400 and Gig everywhere, getting all their systems on the same page. In 2018. But they fell a bit short. I seem to recall a news blurb that they were approaching 90% of customers by the end of 2018, and expected to finish by ______. Remind me, what was the latest estimate? My area still has 100 Meg as the top speed. So it must be one of the last areas, and will be upgraded at the very end. So what was the most recent projected end date for the upgrade program? This may be of interest to most people, as the 100 -> 200 base speed upgrade will presumably happen after the general upgrade finishes.

[TWC] Upgrading to 400? Have questions. Sporradic Upload bandwith

$

First off, I am in a L-TWC (SoCal) area that got MAXX. The packages available are 100, 400, and Gig. I'm thinking of going from my 100/10 L-TWC Package ($59.99) to the 400/20 Spectrum package. It seems there is no way avoiding the "Activation/Service fee" even though I already paid an Activation and service fee when I first got TWC. If that is the case, do they send out a Technician? I live in a Duplex (Side-by-side house with individual street numbers, no unit #) and would like everything looked over. I have my own dedicated drop from the Tap to my office room that runs a bit hot at +8/9 dBmV. Is this a concern given I am about to upgrade to 400? I believe those numbers a are "marginally acceptable" based on some research. Secondly, I own my own modem (SB6141) for my current plan. What modem does spectrum hand out to 400/20 subscribers? I would prefer to still own my own modem. Are there any issues with the MB8600? Any opinions? As a note, the reason I am upgrading to 400/20 is due to the upload bandwidth. I am currently having issues hitting 10Mbps upload. I'm hitting 7Mbps upload during off peak hours (middle of day). In the evenings I get sporadic uploads less than 5Mbps, even as low as 900Kbps. Its been happening every other day or so. This is while being plugged in directly to the modem, with no router (pfSense if it matters). Thoughts? Tech support has been no help in me diagnosing upload bandwidth issues other that having me reset the modem which does absolutely nothing. I have a feeling it may be power or signal related, but those stats are available only from the head end, as modems only report downstream SNR, power levels, and error rate.

[CATV] Apple TV Spectrum App Voice Commands

If I recall correctly, someone mentioned it is possible to change channels on the Spectrum App using Siri voice commands. Is there a primer somewhere that explains what commands to use to get to the various channels? I haven't been able to get it to work but I may not using the right commands.

New Hitron modem

So what is everyone's take on these new modems? I have the spectrum gig service and I started the service with the TC4400 but yesterday they did something(guy couldn't tell me exactly what happened) but basically they broke the TC4400 and can no longer work on my account. So they had to come out today and swap out the TC4400 for the hitron model. I don't know what they broke but it didn't matter if they removed/deactivated the modem and added it back it was no longer wanting to work. But anyways my tc4400(or their modem)was pretty solid modem for me, never once had any issues out of it and I do and I still old and new modem get around 940mbps on the down. Its also a bummer because I had the tc4400 unlocked and was able to look at the signals and what not, but I can't even access a page to enter a password.

New Customer = New Equipment?

I live in the Raleigh/Durham area of NC. My bundled promo here is tv silver + 400 mbps internet for $99 + taxes/fees for 2 years. I'm interested in that promo but I would only do this if I can get the latest and greatest new equipment. World Box DVR, a 3.1 modem and Wave 2 router. Does this area have all of those? My brother lives nearby and did self install and they sent him the newest World Box but he already had Spectrum internet and uses his own modem. I'm not interested in the old garbage dvrs or puma 6 modem that they used to hand out here. Was just curious if anyone knew if they hand out new equipment for new customers.

[HSI] MN L-Charter Updates?

Curious from anyone with inside information if they know of any potential info as to what updates may be hitting MN. As with most of the footprint, we received the 100/10 upgrade in Dec 2017, but neither the rate card nor the Ultra plan have changed since either with no word from CS or local store as to coming ultra package. As I've read as of late of areas getting D3.1 in prep for 1Gbps, just curious if 3.1 is getting green lit here soon, for potential 400Mbps ultra or any other updates people may have heard. [Also adding in, I've seen a decent amount of Spectrum trucks rolling locally so it seems they are fairly active in plant upgrades or service calls, atleast more than normal] Thanks in advance!

Upgrading to gig...

...so I have a DVW32CB D3.0 modem. In my household, We’re hopefully going to gig as my brother in law and I are somewhat bandwidth hogs and we need all we can get. 400 wouldn’t be enough for what we do. (Downloading large files at the same time as well as gaming.) I know for a fact we have the OFDM carrier coming in with solid signal on all channels. (Stole my moms Ubee 3.1 to test) What I’m wanting to know is if I can just walk into a spectrum store and get our service upgraded, or not? Does it require a truck roll? Does it also incur that fucking stupid ass $200 fee? Also, we just got the DVW32CB not too long ago and I’d prefer to keep that as a telephony modem. Can we basically have two modems on one account with gig or do they require you to have it all through the one modem?

It appears the channel is now available in HD on Channel 1243 in Orlando. I've seen some HD pictures. We have had the national SD version on 232. It's still not on auto tune like the other SD channels that have gone HD.
