I have a few questions before taking a risk in going back to Charter again after 10 years. I switched to AT&T 10 years ago because of never-ending issues with connection drops and blocked ports, etc. Back then, AT&T and Charter had about the same speeds, around 3MB. Now, 10 years later, I am still stuck at 3MB service with AT&T while Charter has upgraded to 30MB in most areas.
But my biggest concern is I keep hearing that Charter blocks ports, which could be a problem for me. I have to be able to access my home security system remotely and the only way I can do that is if I am able to connect directly to my home router from my phone or a remote PC when I'm not home. Second concern is dynamic IP address. I am used to having a static IP address so I can access my home router and security system. Does Charter offer static IP addresses on residential accounts? Last question is, how reliable is Charter now? I used to get dropped offline every Friday, sometimes for 2 or 3 days straight. Other than faster speeds, is it more reliable now than in years past? thanks for any feedback..
