Oh those upload speeds

$

For those of you on the Spectrum service, how do you feel about the upload speeds? I am currently on Frontier, but considering moving to Spectrum. For about $60 per month I can get 200/200 on Frontier and for $80 I can get 400/20 on Spectrum. Comes out to about $500 more over 2 years for Spectrum for double the download speed but just 10% of the upload speed. Unfortunately I have no other options in my area. I'm debating between the two. The download would be nice, but so is the upload. And the $500 isn't chump change. Thoughts? Help me decide. I'll gladly repay you next Tuesday.

New DNS Server?

I am now seeing a new DNS server from Spectrum. I have been receiving 209.18.47.61 and 209.18.47.62. Now I am seeing 209.18.47.62 and 209.18.47.63.

Substantial price increase coming?

Man, I hope not. https://www.cordcuttersnews.com/spectrum-is-raising-their-prices-as-much-as-15-a-month-on-tuesday/ Recently Cord Cutters News learned from sources with knowledge of Spectrum’s pricing that on September 18, 2018, Spectrum’s new customer pricing will be increasing. According to the new pricing charts Cord Cutters News has seen, some new customers will be paying as much as $15 more a month than they would have on September 17. That’s not all. According to these pricing charts, the older multiroom DVR price is going up from $10.99 a month in the first year to $19.99 per month in the third year of your service. (Year two customers will pay $14.99 a month.) That is for new customers; however, when your current deal ends it is likely current TV subscribers could also see that rate. Single room DVRs will start at $4.99 a month in year one but go up to $12.99 in year 3. Update: Some readers have pointed out that Spectrum no longer sells a multi-room DVR. It is possible that a new one is on the way or that Spectrum is trying to clear out older multi-room DVRs still in customers homes by pushing them to cheaper single room DVRs. Recently a lot has been made of Netflix increasing their pricing by $1 a month and DIRECTV NOW increasing their price by $5 a month. Yet compared to a $15 a month price hike plus a $10 a month price hike on DVR service in year two, services like Netflix and DIRECTV NOW look even cheaper. It is impossible for services to keep the same price for life, but the rate of price increases for streaming services is still a fraction of what we are seeing with traditional pay-TV services. Cord Cutters News has reached out to Spectrum but at the time of publishing, we have not received a reply.

My daughter is buying a small business. Spectrum in Austin Tx is the provider. It also has a Panasonic PBX with 7 AT&T pots lines coming in. One is being used for a Fax. Does Spectrum have provide pots lines which will plug into a PBX? Do they have a SIP solution? Are they Fax friendly? About what is the pricing?

[CATV] Menu and Guide Unavailable

We just had Spectrum installed at our apartment seeing as my business uses it and we have had no problems. The technician said we received the latest equipment (Docsis 3.1 modem, Spectrum 210 HDDVR boxes). For the last 3 days, the full guide and full menu are unavailable. There is STBA-3101 and STBA-3102 errors. I called tech support and they basically said "We are working on the bugs and we hope to fix it soon". Picture quality, internet speed and voice quality is great, but they should fix their bugs before rolling out new equipment.

[HSI] Email: Modem no longer optimizing your Internet experience

I received an email that my Charter Spectrum Internet (So Cal) has been upgraded for free to 100Mbps. I believe I was at 60Mbps before. In the same mail it is suggesting that I replace my modem. I purchased an SB6121 a while back on my own. Recent Speedtest is reporting 114 down and 11 up. Should I get the free replacement modem? "you have a modem that is no longer optimizing your Internet experience. It is important to take action now and replace your Internet modem. There are three ways to replace your modem, at no cost to you."

[Upgrades] Will Spectrum allow me to use my Arris SB6183 with Ultra 400?

I know it’s not listed for 400, but I’ve seen a couple of folks on the forum mention they’ve used it with Ultra. My area doesn’t have congestion problems. I’m always getting my full over provisioned speeds on 100/10. I’ll eventually buy a cm600, but for now would like to use my current modem. Will Spectrum allow me to use it? Thanks.

Channel not locked

So I recently upgraded from an SB6141 to a Netgear CM600 so I went from 8x4 to 24x4. I'm in a L-TWC area in Upstate NY. I noticed something strange. For some reason, Channel 2 never seems to lock and it looks like I get some kind of interference in the channels closest to it. Any ideas what could be causing this?

Channel pixelation and audio studders

My father's cable is having issues with pixelation and audio studders after spectrum switched to total digital cable. Most of the times it occurs on network channels(and, nbc, cbs) and the heaviest is during primetime. Have contacted local office, their solution is replace cable box(replace 3 in about a year). Is this a common problem to all spectrum users?

[HSI] Spectrum Gig - Post your experiences here

Let's reserve this thread for only folks who are ordering/have ordered/have installed the new 940x35 tier, served over DOCSIS 3.1. Include location, modem provided, pricing, speed/latency/signal details, etc. To be fair, I'm starting this one a little early. City: Austin, TX (NW) Price: $124.99/mo + tax, $199.99 install fee (no discounts) Confirmed on Twitter earlier today that Gig was available here, then had a 9am Thursday appointment one 8 minute, 54 second call later (no initial hold time for sales). No discounts because I can't exactly pretend I'll switch to AT&T; their service is 5 Mbps here. Will be interesting to see what modem/gateway the tech brings. EDIT: Got email confirmation of the appointment. Looks like it's Wednesday at 1pm now. I'm not complaining :) EDIT 12/20 2p: Tech shows up at 1:51pm. Technicolor modem, same as in Hawaii. No branding on the router, which is an 11ac Wave 2 device with one WAN port (the modem has two LAN ports). Tech is on the phone with dispatch to get the router and modem activated. EDIT 12/22 2:40a: I can't stress enough how good the provided router is (made by Askey), particularly on the WiFi side. I just topped out at over 750 Mbps on my 2013-vintage MacBook Pro...over WiFi. It has a 3x3 11ac radio from Atheros (now QCA). My nearly-brand-new work laptop, which only has a 2x2 radio, was still able to hit 500+ Mbps. Also, I just tested ports 22, 80, 443, and 5900. None of them are blocked.

horrible stats but yet not losing connection. TV is tiling.....

[HSI] new Ultra user DOCSIS 3.1 modem would not reach proper download

$

I got new internet only Ultra service this morning (after cancelling service a year ago which was 200M grandfathered Brighthouse). The tech initially tried setting up with the 3.1 modem I requested (it was Ubee). Unfortunately the second LED never changed from light blue to darker blue, and while internet connected and upload speed was fine (>20M) the download speed only reached around 30M (wired). I watched him try resetting/power cycling multiple times with exact same result, and of course he was calling into his back office support. His only solution was to switch to TM1602 modem, which reaches over 400M as expected (after the replacement CM MAC was updated in back end so it would connect). Supposedly I will be able to go swap modem at nearby customer service office, but does anyone happen to know why Ubee 3.1 never got the dark blue LED and only reached around 30M? If it matters, I told him there is probably some old "trap" in my cable pedestal and he used meter to verify there was (I think he said channel 66?) but he said it does not affect internet and would not remove it. Cables and power levels are fine.

[CATV] National Mandatory EAS alert test today

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has announced that the nationwide test of Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) and the Emergency Alert System (EAS), originally scheduled for September 20, 2018, has been postponed to the back-up test date of October 3, 2018. The WEA test will originate at 2:18 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT), and the EAS test will originate at 2:20 p.m. The test is being rescheduled due to ongoing response efforts to Hurricane Florence. All Participating Commercial Mobile Service Providers and EAS Participants are required to participate in this nationwide testShould occur in about 25 minutes. https://www.fema.gov/emergency-alert-test Cell towers will broadcast the WEA test for approximately 30 minutes beginning at 2:18 p.m. EDT. During this time, WEA compatible cell phones that are switched on, within range of an active cell tower, and whose wireless provider participates in WEA should be capable of receiving the test message. Some cell phones will not receive the test message, and cell phones should only receive the message once. The WEA test message will have a header that reads "Presidential Alert" and text that says: “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.”Lets see how well it works this year.

[HSI] Charter speed increases.

Most of charter will be at 100 Mbps down by next week. Charter is increasing spectrum ultra in most markets to 300/20 in the next couple weeks. Meaning that ultra upgrade will be worth it over the 100/10 speed package.
