Charter to purchase MERIT?

I heard it from a drunk Charter/Spectrum employee at a Christmas party. He said MERIT Networks was losing money fast and looking for a buyer, and Charter was the likely partner. Anyone know if there's any truth to it? For anyone not familiar with MERIT, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merit_Network As MERIT is a non-profit, I have no idea what the results of a purchase like this would look like. However they do have an extensive fiber network in Michigan, much of it constructed using federal grant money.
