We currently have the "Triple Play" package with phone, tv, and internet. We really use the internet and the others are not as important. We are netflix/amazon watchers with some streaming through ESPN now that it is available (I love sports, wife doesn't care). My discounted rate has expired and my latest bill went from $160/month to $220/month. I'd like to reduce my costs but not shoot my foot off in the process. I think I can survive with local channels and get my sports fix through the ESPN streaming. I have a few questions:
If I get "Internet Only" will I still get a few TV channels just by connecting the cable to the TV or is all of that filtered out now? If it is filtered is there a very basic package that is inexpensive?
What's the best alternative for phone? I need to keep a landline due to my self installed home alarm system. It dials out through the landline and calls my cell phone (it isn't monitored by any company). We never use the phone. We get telemarketers but have no need for actual phone service. Would something like Ooma be the best and cheapest option for me? I don't see the point in paying $40/month for a phone line that I never use, but I do want the landline for my alarm to dial out in emergencies.
