Okay, today I replaced my old DVR with a Motorola DCX3510-M. The first thing I noticed was the new DVR had no fan. After it was on for awhile I went in to the diagnostic menu and saw the HDD was 52C. I do a lot with computers and to me that is hot for a hard drive. I rigged a 120mm fan to run off of the USB port in the back. Just setting it on top of the box exhausting air out the top vents, the temperature dropped to 35C. Considering I have this fan wire held together by twisting wires together and securing them with electrical tape, I don't feel comfortable leaving that fan running 24/7.
Is the 52C the HDD was hitting without a fan too hot? If so do you have any other suggestions?
