Long story short the supplied modem was giving my mom problems and I was able to give her my SB6141 and purchased a SB6190. According to the brighthouse/charter pages about customer supplied modems, the SB6190 can run 300. I talked to brighthouse livechat to switch my account to 100 since the price was 17$. I was surprised when the agent didn't mention anything about a fee going to 100 which I've been told before was around 34$. I was able to switch without any issues but the agent told me that the installation fee was only if a tech had to come out. What pissed me off was the fact that I was told that there was a "special" modem for the 300mbps even though on their pages it says you can use your own modem that can run 300. Here's the chat log from the talk. Any thoughts on it?
Shanquie:
What should be changed on the account?
Adam:
I was interested in switching my account to the spectrum 100
Shanquie:
That would be $59.99 per month
Adam:
no fees associated with switching?
Shanquie:
This will be done automatically from here.
Adam:
ok
Adam:
I've heard about "installation fees" but wasn't sure
Adam:
since there isn't anything to install
Shanquie:
Only if a tech needs to come out.
Adam:
oh ok
Adam:
I was told before that there was a 199$ fee to go to 300mbps
Adam:
but even still there wouldn't be anything to install
Shanquie:
Yes, that is correct.
Adam:
so there would be a 199$ fee if I switched to 300?
Adam:
or only if a tech was needed?
Shanquie:
Correct.
Shanquie:
A tech will need to come out as there is a special modem for this speed.
Adam:
I have my own modem that can support 300mbs
Adam:
sbg6190
Shanquie:
That is not the modem that will be used.
Adam:
do you know which one would?
Shanquie:
tc8715d - technicolor tc8715d d3 wireless modem
Shanquie:
Should I make the change on the account?
Adam:
just to 100 please
Shanquie:
Okay.
Shanquie:
Your monthly rate will be $59.99.

Again just as a point I have a SB6190 which according to the brighthouse and charter page can run 300, but I have to pay 199$ for what I saw is a completely outdated modem?
