Referring to topic of "customer owned modems will not be allowed on Charter network" I made the mistake last year of standing my ground after enjoying Charter internet with my own Zoom docsis 3.0 modem/router combo, after Charter doubled the price of internet only. I waited for about 8 months then ordered service again. I have to use their modem, so $120 down the drain; it's still a docsis 3.0 but no router, so I would have to shell out extra for a router when I have a perfectly good modem/router. If I want a Charter router - they will "professionally" install it for me for about $30 bucks plus double my monthly cost for Charter wifi. What a joke. also curiously, when I was paying for 15 mbps I was regularly streaming at 15 to 17 mbps using my wifi set up. Now with the charter provided modem - my streaming has dropped to 11 or lower. no problem as long as it stays like that - but i've found with Amazon prime and netflix I'm waiting a lot more during busy times when I didn't have to using my own equipment. I called Charter to discuss and spoke to an airhead who stated I'm receiving a faster speed for internet and they have nothing to do with streaming. I'd like to do a test and have them provision my modem/router but I don't think they'll go for it. I would dearly love for another cable company to buy Charter - but I don't think it's going to get better. I will write a letter, although it will probably be a waste of time. I don't need or want the other services; I use a cell phone, and I don't need to watch network or cable tv when I can stream. Does anyone have any suggestions?
