interesting news: the tech said he was told that there was supposed to be upstream channel bonding when they changed to the 60 mbps plan
he put some filter on the pole and said it should filter out ingress from the neighbors when we are uploading at the same time
the filter has "ARCOM FBR-3/62" on it. i tried to do some research but nothing specific to 3/62 but i did find this http://www.arcomlabs.com/33ReturnStepAttenuators.html i think that's what it is. but it's a bit over my head...
he also said he upgraded my grounding block
as for the attenuator... as predicted he gave me a terminator and 2 way splitter. oh well... snr is still 42
now back to upstream channel bonding. he showed me the filter and said when he puts this on there it should give me a second upstream channel. i could hardly hear the guy but from what i could make out he explained that when the neighbors are uploading at the same time as me, they will take priority and i'll have to wait my turn. i didn't quite understand why a filter would 'unlock' the second channel. but after he put the filter on i checked and still only a single up stream channel. i went back outside and told him and he was surprised and said that "everyone was telling us that upstream bonding was rolled out at the same time as the switch from 30 to 60 mbps"
anyways i had a conversation with the guy and he seemed cool and knowledgeable. first thing i notice now is my average snr is closer to 42 than 41. i think im just gonna buy my own attenuator from amazon.
also he didnt have any 16 down channel modems on his truck. but he said the local office has them and i can go swap mine out there. ill do that later this week
